Our Process

How Ecoworkz Installs a Backyard Putting Green

Here’s exactly what happens from the day you sign to your first putt. Our own crew handles every step.

Design On-Site

We measure your yard, agree on shape, hole count, and fringe style, and give you a plan to approve before we dig.

Clear & Excavate

Sod, plants, or hardscape in the footprint is removed and hauled away, then we excavate to the depth your soil needs.

Sub-Base Compaction

We lay and compact crushed aggregate. This base controls drainage and keeps the green smooth. Skip it and you get a bumpy, puddling surface.

Weed Barrier & Turf

A permeable weed barrier goes over the base. Then we cut and seam nylon putting green turf, with turf pile height matched to the roll speed you want.

Cups, Berm and Fringe

We set regulation cups and flagsticks at each hole. Fringe turf goes around the edge, and any berms in your design are shaped and covered.

Infill & Walkthrough

We brush infill material into the fibers, then walk the green with you and explain your manufacturer and Ecoworkz workmanship warranties.

SoCal Performance

How Putting Green Turf Performs in the SoCal Climate

Artificial putting green turf is built to match the roll of a maintained golf green, without water, mowing, or fertilizer. Here’s how it handles Southern CA conditions.

Heat

Riverside County summers hit 100°F and up. Nylon fiber stays rigid in heat, so putts break the same in July as in February.

UV Exposure

UV-stabilized nylon fiber resists fading and fiber breakdown under year-round SoCal sun.

No Irrigation

No watering, mowing, aerating, or overseeding. The green stays green through drought restrictions.

Turf Pile Height

Putting surfaces typically run 3/8 to 1/2 inch. A shorter pile rolls faster and truer.

HOA approval

HOA Approval for Putting Greens

Most HOAs in Southern California have rules about what you can build in your yard. That means you often need their OK before you add a putting green. We read your HOA’s rules for you. Then we fill out the forms, send them in, and answer any questions they have.

Sizes & layouts

Putting Green Sizes, Layouts, and Custom Options

Will a putting green fit in your yard? Almost always. Shapes are freeform, so we work around trees, planters, and patio edges.

Customization

Fringe, Berm, and Cup Options

Finish the edges and holes to match how you play.

Short or Long Fringe

A 12–18 inch border of longer turf for a clean edge, or a 2–4 foot surround that doubles as a chipping zone.

Berm and Fringe

Fringe is a flat border. A berm is a raised, turf-covered mound that sends missed shots back toward the green.

Rough-Style Collar

A taller, denser ring of turf that mimics the rough around a real golf green.

Cup and Flagstick

Regulation-size cups with custom flag colors, matched to your home's palette if your HOA asks for it.

Common Questions

Putting Green Questions We Hear Most

How long does installation take?

Most backyard greens take two to four days. A 300-400 sq ft green on a flat, accessible
site can be done in two days. A multi-hole green with a berm or bunker takes three to four. You get a timeline with your quote.

Most HOAs in Riverside and Orange County will approve one with a complete submission. We prepare and file the package, including a site plan and product samples, and handle the board’s questions for you.

Almost always. Greens start around 200 sq ft, shapes are freeform, and we’ve built on sloped rear yards and in a side yards as well.

You can buy turf and cup kits online, but DIY greens rarely hold up. Sub-base compaction is the step most DIY projects skip, and a poorly compacted base leads to bumps, puddles, and shifting turf within a season. A professional install also comes with a workmanship warranty.

No Obligation. No Pressure.
